The Art of Soil Collective

In this workshop, participants are invited to deepen their connection to the land beneath their feet, even within an urban setting. Together, they’ll reflect on their own biases, expectations, and assumptions while examining and comparing soil samples gathered from across Kitchener-Waterloo. From there, they’ll craft love letters to the soil—letters to the shared land—written on handmade seed paper, which will then be composted back into local soil.

The experience encourages a shift in perspective: to see our soils and shared urban landscapes not as overlooked ground, but as something to be cared for with the same sensitivity, attention, and affection one would offer a loved one.
